Joann Denning holds a BA from the University of California, San Diego, and an MFA from the University of California, Davis. As a first-generation college student herself, Denning is deeply committed to advancing opportunities for others like her through equitable and accessible education. She serves as the department chair of Art Digital Media, Film & Television, and Work Experience at Diablo Valley College, where she also acts as the faculty career education senate representative.

A passionate advocate for community colleges and first-generation college students, Denning leads efforts to create pathways into emerging technologies. She is the faculty lead for the Bay Area Regional Virtual Production Academy and co-chair of the Real Time Society Education Special Interest Group. Her work emphasizes apprenticeships, work-based learning, and fostering inclusive education, empowering students from diverse backgrounds to thrive in innovative industries.

As an educational futurist, Denning bridges academia and industry, fostering strategic partnerships and developing programs that equip students with real-world experience in high-demand sectors. Her leadership in career education reflects her dedication to supporting community college students and preparing them for success in rapidly evolving technological landscapes.
