Deep Sen received the B.E. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, in 1990 and 1994, respectively. Since 2019 he has led the development of Audio Codecs and Immersive Audio technologies at Apple, Inc. At Apple, he and his team developed the Apple Spatial Audio Format (ASAF) and the Apple Positional Audio Codec (APAC) which have been deployed in all Apple devices. Preceding Apple, he was a Senior Director at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., where he led the development of the MPEG-H immersive audio suite of technologies and its standardization at MPEG as well as various application standards such as ATSC 3.0 and DVB. MPEG-H has been deployed in various countries around the globe. From 1994 to 2003, he was with the Speech and Audio Laboratories, AT&T Bell Laboratories, NJ, USA, and from 2003 to 2011, he was a Faculty Member with the School of Electrical Engineering, University of New South Wales, Australia. He has multiple peer-reviewed publications and multiple granted patents. His past experience includes speech and audio coding, psychoacoustics, bio-mechanical modeling of the cochlea, blind source separation, beamforming, and hearing prosthetics. Dr. Sen is a member of the Acoustical Society of America, Audio Engineering Society, and an Elected Member of the IEEE Speech andLanguage Technical Committee.
