Dave Robertson

Senior Video Engineer

Ocean Exploration Trust

In a 40+ year career in broadcast, Dave Robertson has worked at television stations, at post production facilities, and in live sports production, including the 2010 Winter Olympics. Most recently, he was the chief engineer of KTVA-TV, the CBS affiliate in Anchorage, AK where he managed the design and commissioning of a new $22 million facility multicasting to stations in Anchorage, Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan.

In 2005, while working at University of Washington, Robertson was asked to facilitate installing an HD camera on ROV Jason to deploy from R/V Thompson, then building and operating an HD video system to support it. This resulted in the first-ever live HD over IP broadcast from a ship at sea in 2005. He was the video and satellite engineer for that project.

Robertson has sailed on R/V Nautilus since 2017 and in 2019 was part of a team of three who designed and built the current video system, as well as installing and commissioning the system, on R/V Nautilus. He continues to sail on Nautilus as a lead video engineer, helping to train the next generation of explorers.
