Automating Creative-Driven Soundtrack Versioning Using Advanced Loudness Optimization

Skywalker Sound has created the Coda Platform to intelligently convert a completed soundtrack to fit distribution pipeline needs, while preserving the original intent of the content creators. A core technology within the platform we will discuss is content-aware loudness and dynamic range optimization processing; perceptually maintaining original mix balance and impact while conforming to multiple loudness targets; device profiles; and consumer listening needs. This proprietary technology serves as a new method towards specification compliance, strikingly distinct from legacy audio approaches such as compressors and limiters.
Intro: Erik Foreman, Post-Production Mixer
Speaker: Nicolas Tsingos, Skywalker Sound, Principal Research Engineer

6-Degree-of-Freedom Immersive Audio for Broadcast and Linear Media

Professional and consumer audio technology has progressed over the past few decades along several parallel threads – including sensory immersion, electronic transmission, content formats and creation tools. In a not-too-distant future, the authoring, consumption, or performance of a significant portion of our media and music experiences might leverage a global set of frameworks and ecosystems, sometimes referred to as the Metaverse. In time, more and more of our media experiences (currently categorized into separate content industries such as music, movies, and podcasts) may be cloud-based, navigable, non-destructive, ubiquitous, interoperable, and adaptable to listener conditions. In this talk, we distill elements of this vision and some of the opportunities and challenges that it entails for technologists and creators, including the adoption of a streamable immersive audio scene coding model, and “externalized” binaural audio reproduction.

Stop Riding the Remote! Fixing the Loudness Problem for Streaming

As we go full circle back to ads in paid content, it is critical to make sure your viewers stay engaged instead of getting distracted by wildly changing audio levels. This becomes even more critical with dialog enhancement for an aging population and audio description for viewers with accessibility needs. Media Turners’ David Frerichs will walk us through how to address these challenges across multiple audio formats.
Intro: Brian (Bt) Gibbs, Skyline Entertainment and Publishing, Co-Owner and Principal
Speaker: David Frerichs, Media Tuners, President

Networking for Production: AoIP/AES67/Dante

For remote live events including concerts, corporate events, and sports (either broadcast or live streaming), many advances have been made in the last three to five years. Simplification on security of data over long distances can be achieved with smaller teams and producers/directors/mixers across various remote locations. Join Sam Craig & Patrick Killianey for discussion on just how quickly you could have your live events up and functioning across long distances, securely.
Moderator: Brian (Bt) Gibbs
, Skyline Entertainment and Publishing, Co-Owner and Principal

Immersive For Consumer “After the Decode”

While audio technology companies can deliver bit-perfect encode-to-decode for consumers, the challenge lies in what happens when the audio signal leaves the decoding device. Three panelists will discuss the challenges of the consumer immersive audio experience “after the decode.”
